  • 1.  1.3 Release Notes question: directly connect to modem?

    Posted 11-07-2019 06:55 PM

Hi, the 1.3 Release Notes promise:

    • Instant On devices can now be deployed as a Wi-Fi router to the Internet when it connects directly to a
      modem.

    What exactly does this mean?

    Hi,

There are 2 modes supported now - Private network mode and router mode.

The WiFi router mode on the Instant On APs is meant to be used when the customer does not have a pre-existing gatway between the AP and the internet.

The Router AP will provide IP addresses to all other APs in the site. If the AP is AP11D, it will also provide IPs to the wired clients connected. You can also change the DHCP scope of the internal network of the AP in router mode.

You should make sure that when you enable this mode, there is no other router in the network for the clients and only one AP is created as a router in the site.

Thanks, but how is this represented in the GUI and how is this implemented? I don't see any new options. In previous versions, in the Network (SSID) setup there has been an option for "local" and "NAT". How is this different? In either case, how is NAT with a given SSID or Site implemented? Is there an elected "master" and some sort of tunneling - or is traffic steered by L3 routing to the elected "master"?
