Only Allow Specific Clients/Mac addresses

    Dear All,

I can see a new release is out 1.4. Just wanted to confirm that do we have the capability now to only allow certain mac addresses to connect to the SSID while block all others? this feature is very common among other brands. Just wondering when(if not yet) it will be available in Instanton?

    @Ronin101

You have the ability to block (Blacklist) clients on the network. We currently do not have an allowed (Whitelist) for clients.

Is there a chance that a mac filter whitelist will be implemented?

Often we do have the requirement of our customers to implement one or multiple mac filter whitelist for different networks and may need to move to other solutions because we can't do it with instant on aps

@Ibeme We do have a newer feature within the SSID called Network Access that gives you the ability to allow internet access and block all local traffic with the exception and that is done via an IP address.

    I know.
But we often do have the requirement that mac filtering is activated for the internal ssid to only allow certain devices.

That can't be done with the feature you described.

@Ibeme Correct we do not have today MAC address filtering as an option. If we do it will be updated via firmware at not additional cost.

I had an discussion with a customer today, who needs this feature.
He currently has Ubiquiti Stuff and would go away from Ubiquiti and buy Aruba Instant On if there would be a possibility to allow only specific Clients on a SSID.

There is no feature built-in today, you could use an external captive portal and user accounts to limit specific users.

I know that it is not build in today and I know that WPA Enterprise could be used.

WPA Enterprise adds overhead to those customers. Most don't even have an infrastructure for that but only want to use MAC Filtering for the time beeing.

I just wanted to point out that often projects can't be realized with Aruba Instant On only because this feature is missing and I would like ot see it implemented as soon as possible. :)

    It's not possible atm.

You could use the accesspoints in bridged mode, and let a router/dhcp server with this option do the whitelist stuff.

The accesspoints themselves are solid stuff. But then, it just would not be a 100% Aruba Instant On hardware or managed site.

    I know.

But unfortunatelly that isn't possible if the access to the bridged VLAN should be restricted by MAC.

Also some customers don't have a UTM or even a good router to do that.

    Any news on this?
We have a hard time against Ubiquity and others.

We are loosing Customers for Aruba Instant On only because they want this feature (A MAC Whitelist) for WiFi to competitors.

    Thank you.

The access point can be configured to only allow clients to talk to the default The router allows to configure a list of allowed MAC addresses in its Media access control may seem advantageous but there are certain flaws.

I can't believe this is still a missing feature.  I was hoping with the 2.6.0 release the feature would show up, but I guess that was wishful thinking.  This isn't hard to do, so it must be stubbornness that keeps this feature out of the mix.  The lack of this feature continues to disappoint.  I hope it can make it in the next release.

+1 there are a few edge cases where this is still needed.  Is there a uservoice or a way to vote for new features?
