Instant On - Wireless

Our company has historically sold a lot of Xirrus and we use their wifi planner for helping predict coverage needs in a given floor plan.

Is there a recommendation for use with Instant On?

Even if there is something as part of the Aruba Instant or Controller based lineup that might be helpful. I’m not familiar with Aruba’s toolset. We just need to generate coverage heat maps based on floor plans anytime we bid a project.

@twhiteOXEN On the enterprise side of the house you could take a look at Airwave which has VisualRF the can do predictive heatmaps.

Thanks @GThiesen! I'm assuming Airwave's VisualRF makes predictions based on AP model.

Do you know if they will have the AP12 or AP15 (the primary models we recommend)? Or could you suggest models in the Enterprise line that have similar radio characteristics?

@twhiteOXEN The Instant On AP's will not be in airwave but, you can take a look at the 305 and the 315 respectively.

Is Airwave paid license only? Or is there a web based or other planning only level?

@twhiteOXEN Airwave is a paid per-device license.

So we would need to purchase at least one Aruba controller based or Instant (not Instant-On) AP and an Airwave license for that AP to be able to make use of the mapping software?

If they will let me start with just a single AP that could still be perfectly reasonable to have something close to the actual wireless characteristics of the Instant-On gear.

Xirrus / Cambium has some great free planning / heat mapping tools out there but it may be more of a challenge to determine what AP is comparable to the AP12 and AP15.

FYI, VIsualRF plan is discontinued but you still can use it for some model of AP.
