Does the android device open the page with the redirect URL specified in the guest network?

    I am responding to this case with a customer inquiry.
    I heard a Customer, The redirect URL doesn't open on some of the Android devices They tried.

    I'm trying to specify a redirect URL on the guest network with Aruba Instant On.

    I Click Networks from the Aruba Instant On home page.
    I Select an active Guest Network connection.
    Under Security, tap the Portal tab.
    I clicked "Customize guest portal link" and set "Internal" Setting.
    I set the redirect URL to "https://google.co.jp".

    I am verifying this case. But I only have two Android devices.

    One is the Galaxy Tab with Andoroid OS version 6.
    One is a small smartphone with Android OS 9.

    Andoroid OS version 6 successfully redirects to "https://google.co.jp".
    However, Android OS 9 devices cannot redirect to "https://google.co.jp".

    Please tell me why it is not redirected on Android devices.

    Also, the redirect URL opens normally on iPhone and Windows 10.

    Hi Toshiyuki,

    this is unfortunately a known behavior in the industry and is specific to Android devices with a more recent OS version. It is not specific to Instant On or even Aruba products. Basically, at some point in time there was a change in way Android behaves by closing automatically the captive portal when detecting that the phone has connectivity to the Internet. In other words, the phone is getting redirected correctly to the URL, but checks whether Internet accesses are opened. As accesses to the Internet are opened at this point the phone decides the close the page automatically without asking for any user interaction. So in effect, the captive portal and redirection works just fine on Android, just that Android closes the redirection page automatically so you don't have the opportunity to really see it on these devices.
