The ports are the same and have all the functionality of the rj45 ports. I have yet to find an SFP and SFP+ transceiver that won't work in these ports, they might throw a red light on the switch but they still work. You many need to set uplink speeds manually on each end though instead of auto negotiate.
I have these running at the moment with no problems

Subject: Noobie have an 8 Port 1930 & SFP port question
Can I used the two SFP ports on my 1930 like the other 8 ports? I need one more port for my new NAS and ports 9 & 10 are currently not used. I presume that I can buy a compatible j8177D 1G SFP RJ45 T Xcvr and plug my NAS device to that port? I tried ac ompatible j8177D SPF but the switch it didn't seem to work. I suspect I'm over looking something obvious, like maybe these are dedicated uplink/downlink ports???
