After update to 3.0.0 firmware connection problems with iPhones to AP22

  • 1.  After update to 3.0.0 firmware connection problems with iPhones to AP22

    Posted 08-02-2024 10:26 AM

    Hi,

after updating my switches (main switch 1930 24G, 2x 1930 8G, 1830G) and my three AP22 access points (all connected to the main switch) to 3.0.0 my network works, however all my five iPhones (13, 12pro, 12mini, 11, XS) show connection problems: After some time (range from minutes to hours), an iPhone disconnects and claims that the password is incorrect. Typically, the only solution is to reboot the iPhone. I already tried a) to delete the WIFI connection in iOS and setting it up again and b) to disable the "Private Address" in the WIFI settings, but this does not solve the problem. It seems that the behavior appears when an iPhone looses the connection from an AP22 and connects to another AP22, but I am not sure.

In my network, I have approx 30 other devices which overall work fine. Among them are also several iPads, but here I did not really encounter the problem. With the previous Aruba firmware, I never had this problem. My first question is: Can I debug somewhere in the AP22s, what goes on if the connection of an iPhone fails with the wrong password message?

    Thanks and Greetings

I have exactly the same problem you describe on upgrade to 3.0.0 which I never saw on previous upgrades.

Likewise, rebooting iPhones seems to solve it. Perhaps something to do with the way iPhones use PMKID caching. I think this will be quite disruptive after tomorrow's default upgrade for most AIO networks...

Rebooting iPhone only solves this temporarily, then the "Incorrect password" starts again after a while. Also tried power cycle of the AP22s to no avail.

I would rollback to 2.9.1 but seems there is no option for that.

This is definitely a major issue!

Same problem here - this is really annoying. We need a fix asap.

    Hi all,

I also updated to 3.0.0 but I do not have any problems. May be the problems accrue in conjunction with the switches. I use switches from Cisco.
But I also have many Apple devices. And I also work with radius authentication. Did somebody tried a different kind of authentication.

I tried switching security setting from "WPA2 + WPA3 Personal" to "WPA2 Personal" and so far it seems to be a workaround. I am not seeing iPhones dropping the WiFi connection.

I have a ticket in with Aruba and they have confirmed they are aware of the issue and are working on the fix.

Same problem here with two sites. Both did upgrade to version 3.0.1.

Rebooting the AP is only temporarily and what sometimes will help on iphone is changing the setting of the wifi Private wifi-adress on and of.

Rollback will be a nice feature of a quick firmware upgrade to fix this issue.

    Are you sure it's 3.0.1?

Asking as it looks like we're all on 3.0.0 for the time being...

Have you tried setting "WPA2 Personal" instead of "WPA2 + WPA3 Personal" on the Network Security setting? That has worked as a temporary fix for me.

I am using WPA2 + WPA3 Personal on various sites and a few SSIDs each with absolutely no issues what soever.
Also many iOS devices around - all is fine for me.

However, if this might play a role, I am not working with VLANS.

its only temporary, it works for me to change between private adress use (on and off).

Then it will connect or to reboot the AP.

It just sucks, why does it have to take such a long time to get a fix.

Not just iPhones, 2 Google pixels are also having issues, reporting auth failures. User can manually reconnect successfully though. It would be awesome if we could get logging for these ap22.

HPE Support have informed me that a fixed version 3.1.0 will be released this week. Hopefully that will solve all issues.

Sounds good. I don't see the update yet in the Aruba instant on AP to install.

Just reboot your AP's and it will install automatically during reboot.

    So easy.

    Hello,
i have a similar problem with AP11. It is known that there is an update for it, but it does not show it in the portal. I have connection problems with many devices. A reboot helps for a few hours, but then the problems return. I spent hours analyzing the error before I found this post and hope that the update is the solution. AP11 worked for me for years without any problems.
