  • 1.  AP11 - traffic management

    Posted 04-15-2022 09:04 AM

    Hi everybody,
I'm new to Aruba wifi products and I'm thinking about buying some AP11.
My need is to manage multiple SSIDs in different VLANs, I gathered that the initial
configuration is done via cloud, but what I don't understand is how the traffic is
managed or by who, if there will be an AP designated as master that will manage
all the other APs (is the cpu/ram enough for this task?) or if that will be also
managed by the cloud (what happens if the connection goes down?).
I'm used to other brands where I have a switch/router that serves as a wifi manager,
but the only Aruba products that I found that serve this role are the Aruba Mobility
Controller or the Virtual Appliances but both are way too expensive for me,
my reseller told me that I can do this with HPE switches but I can't find any
    information anywhere regarding this possibility.
    Please kindly advice.

    Thanks

I need to provide a retirement home with wifi, with two SSIDs (one administrative and one for guest).
It is a two-stories building, I calculated I'll need around 20 APs to cover the entire building.
Let me know if you need more informations, I don't know what else to write besides what
I already wrote in my original post.

    Thanks

    Hi Davide,

    Thank you for the question.

The consideration of a mobility controller or a virtual appliance comes into the picture only if you have an enterprise Aruba network device (AP 505, AP 515, AP 575, ect). When it comes to 'Aruba Instant on' device, all the management is only from the instant on cloud portal. As far as all the instant on AP's are in one customer account, the configuration and the visibility is taken care from the instant on portal itself.

When the connection goes down to the cloud portal, which would happen only in an unlikely case of 'internet down' scenario, the AP's will stop broadcasting SSID until it can reach the instant on portal.

Instant ON AP's do not work with mobility controller or virtual appliances. The only way to manage the AP's will be from the cloud portal.

    please revert for concerns.
