    • Instant ON APs can now set their inventory name as the hostname in the DHCP requests.
    • The configured inventory name is set as "hostname" under option-12 of the DHCP DISCOVER Packet.
    • This allows an administrator to better identify a device on the DHCP server.
    • The characters in the DHCP option is more limited than the device name in the UI (APP and the portal).
    • The maximum number of characters supported for the hostname is 32.
    • Colons and dashes are automatically converted to “dashes”(-).

    • Configured the device name as “AP:12:LAB” from the Mobile Application.

    • From the Uplink capture, we can see that the colons are replaced with dashes and the AP name is referred to “AP-12-LAB”.apture-1.JPG
    • The hostname gets updated in the switch LLDP information.Capture-2.PNG

    • If there are more special characters mentioned in the AP’s hostname then the AP’s serial number is set as the hostname in the DHCP option-12.
    • Configured the device name as “&@&&)@” from the Mobile Application.Untitled.png

    • From the Uplink capture, we can see that the AP name is referred to  “CNHVJSSBCG”.
