Prior to version 1.4.0 upgrade, 802.11b rates are enabled by default which allows longer ranges, it causes the clients to “stick” to far Aps rather connecting to nearby AP
In version 1.4.0 802.11b rates are disabled by default from the Network Profile and provided a knob for the user to re-enable them if required.
Functionality:
Prior to version 1.4.0, All management traffics are sent in basic rates (1(b), 2(b), 5.5, 11 (Mbps)).
After version 1.4.0, 802.11b rates are disabled by default hence management frames are only sent through g-rates.
The management traffic will not be sent at “11b” (b- basic) rates. They will be sent at “11g” 6 Mbps rate.
By doing this, coverage of the AP is reduced so that clients which are far, will not be able to see the SSID.
This makes the clients to connect to nearby AP which will avoid clients to stick to far Aps.
