  • 1.  SFP+ to Copper 10G Ethernet transceiver

    Posted 03-25-2024 08:23 PM

Hi, Does anyone have a recommendation for an SFP+ to 10G Ethernet transceiver? Currently have four stacked 1960 48 Port PoE's with the built-in 10G ports doing the stacking as the SFP+ ports are used for uplinks using fiber across the building.

I have a couple of spare SFP+ ports I'd like to make use of but need them to be 10G Ethernet instead of Fiber.

    I see Aruba do a 10GBASE-T SFP+ RJ45 30m Cat6A XCVR (JL563A) transceiver but doesn't list the InstantOn's as compatible switches.

In-fact, there doesn't appear to be any "official" InstantOn SFP+ to Ethernet modules at all so if anyone here has a recommendation that they know works, that would grand!

I've ordered HPE 10GBASE-T SFP+ to RJ45 (SKU # R0R41B) lets see if they work. I have noticed on the latest firmware of the Aruba InstantOn's (the 1930's and 1960's at least) that they seem to be adding more support for more transceivers, in the firmware notes:

    Version 2.9.1.17
    Type Description
Transceivers Added support for Aruba 10GBase-T transceivers.

I've used a couple brands of SPF+ 10G Base-T transceivers.  The Instant On line appears to work with any brand.  There may be a message that they are not authorized if you contact support.  Most of my transceivers are 10Gtek.

You mentioned stacking with the existing 10G Base-T on the 1960.  I use the HPE DAC cables in the SFP+ to stack a pair of my 1960s.  This would free up the built-in 10G Base-T.  The DAC is HPE part number R9D19A.

Thanks, the DAC route is my normal go to however, this client needed to use the SFP ports as fiber uplinks to various cabinets and switches in the building, so it was out of the question. I find it strange that they have official SFP+ DAC cables, Fiber transceivers and even an SFP+ to 1G Base-T but no 10G.

Its the only product missing an official release.
